Billy Hare (Group Chair) is a Professor of Construction Management within the School of Engineering & Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and also lectures in Construction Management and Health and Safety. He is Deputy Director of the GCU’s Centre for ‘Built Environment Asset Management’ (BEAM). Billy has a PhD in Construction Management (Thesis specialism: Health & Safety); BSc (Hons) in Construction Management & Engineering and a BA in Occupational Health and Safety. He joined GCU in 2002, after a career in construction contracting. Since then, he has delivered research on several HSE, IOSH, EPSRC, CITB and industry funded projects. His research portfolio is exclusively focused on the management of occupational health and safety within the construction industry. Research topics include: CDM, BIM & Design for H&S; Worker Engagement; Organisational Factors in Safety Performance; Communication with Migrant Workers; Worker Fatigue; and use of Body Mapping. Billy has also written several research papers and industry guidance documents (including a module for CITB flagship publication ‘GE700’ and on Worker Engagement for CDM) and was part of the expert panel writing Principal Designer guidance for CDM2015. He has authored several online CPD courses on the subject of construction health and safety, and is currently Chair of the CIOB National H&S Committee and a member of the ICE H&S Expert Panel.
